I love to learn. When I was a kid, the ability to connect easily to the internet was not something found in every household like it is today. I used to read encyclopedia articles at random, but being able to look up facts online is so much easier and a lot more interesting too, because I am not restricted to just what is on a book page. So, did you ever wonder anything random at all? How tall is Mount Everest? I wonder if that thought has recently crossed anyone else's mind like it did mine not long ago.
I had been watching the news when a news story came on about a climber on Everest. While the story itself was interesting, finding out facts about Mount Everest is what was really on my mind. I knew already from my school days that no other mountain reaches the height of Mount Everest, but I really did not know much about it other than that. I went online and did some quick searches, and that is how I found myself at Earth Untouched. I was able to read that this spectacular mountain is an impressive 5.5 miles high from sea level.
That might not seem like a lot, but consider that it is not straight up and down. There are flat spots and slight slopes mixed in with that, and it is no wonder that so many people want to climb it. I can easily walk 5.5 miles, but I know there is no way I could climb it, especially with the issues that climbers encounter with the altitude changes. After reading about Mount Everest and its surrounding mountains, I have a renewed respect for those who are able to climb it to the very top. Those who can, do. Those who can't, read about it online!
